Just read this news item, a Chinese manufacturer has been selling a iPad like device for over 6 months now. The article states, that they have been selling a 'iPad knock-off'. My point is that if this device was the first to be released would it not be that iPad is the knock off.
You when credit when it comes to manufacturing. They will build and manufacture a product in record time (and minimal cost) while US companies sit discussing designs in cozy conference rooms.
Even if Apple has patents on products in US, I would say this manufacturer has been selling this in the Chinese market for months. It would be interesting to note what would happen from a copyrights point of view. Every American gadget maker would have to deal with this issue at some point of time as almost all products are not manufactured in China.
